Placenta Encapsulation Basics

After childbirth, the placenta is saved and kept cool.  I come to pick it up as soon as possible after the birth.  I will then clean the placenta and prepare it using the Raw Method  or The Chinese Method based on your preference.  Next, the placenta is dried, ground, and put into capsules. The placenta's size will determine how many capsules are created. On average, the typical placenta will produce anywhere between 100-200 capsules. This entire process should take around 48 hours. I will return the capsules to you quickly so you can begin enjoying the benefits as soon after birth as possible.  After receiving the capsules, they should be stored in a dark, cool cabinet where they can remain for months.  I take safety very seriously and handle your placenta with care in a dedicated work space.   I am fully trained and have completed the Bloodborne Pathogens and Infection Control Course for Placenta Encapsulators as well as the ServSafe Food Handlers Course.  Equipment and supplies are thoroughly disinfected using Universal Precautions.

Traditional Chinese Method - $225
(Gently heated)
Inspired by the Traditional Chinese Medicine method of preparation involves cleaning the placenta, gently heating the placenta with fresh ginger, lemon slices, and jalapeno then dehydrating the placenta before it is put into capsules. Using this preparation is thought to bring out the placenta's healing and tonifying properties as well as warming and healing the uterus.  It produces few capsules than the raw method.

Raw Method - $225
The raw method of preparation skips the heating process altogether since some believe that steaming the placenta destroys some of the essential nutrients. Using this option
provides a burst of energy upfront and great hormone stabilization.

Tincture- $40 (4 oz.)
Putting part of your placenta in tincture form is another way to stretch out its longevity. A small portion of placenta is added to 100 proof alcohol and set to ferment for 6 weeks. Some of the benefits include hormone stabilization in your postpartum cycles, less bleeding during those cycles, energy and for menopause years down the road. The female child can also benefit from placental tincture once she begins her menstruation cycles. Only a small amount of raw placenta is needed to make tincture, making this a wonderful addition to our encapsulation service. If kept in a cool dry place this will keep for years.

Salve- $40 (4 oz.)
A salve or balm made of your placenta and a variety of healing herbs and oils offers healing properties to c-section scars once they are healed, hemorrhoids, perineal tearing, cracked or blistered nipples, eczema, sun burn, diaper rash, skin irritation and more.  The salve usually contains herb infused olive oil (comfrey, calendula, plantain), shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter, beeswax, essential oils, Vitamin E oil & Grape seed oil.  We can discuss your planned uses of the salve and which ingredients you prefer. Think of the salve as a healing, anti-biotic ointment!
